“The Logic of Sanctuary Conference: Religious Movements in Non-Sovereign Spaces” Public Forum

January 23, 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The two-day conference on “The Logic of Sanctuary” begins with a public forum on the sanctuary movement. How and why was this religious concept revived, and what resources does it offer? The roundtable brings together journalists, activists, and academics to think through these pressing questions in an engaging roundtable format, with time for Q&A with the audience. This event is more public-facing than the workshop the next day, and there is no need to attend both.

Moderated by Elizabeth Bruenig (Washington Post)
Panelists
A. Naomi Paik (Asian American Studies, University of Illinois)
Diya Abdo (director of Guilford College’s Every Campus a Refuge project)
Julie Peeples (Senior Pastor, Congregational church, Greensboro)
